The outpouring of support for Winchester Hospital has been remarkable since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cummings Foundation, a longtime supporter of Winchester Hospital, made a gift of $100,000 to support the hospital’s Healthcare Heroes Fund.
For 15 consecutive years, proceeds from the annual James F. McDonough, MD, Golf Classic enabled more than 100 registered nurses (RN’s) at Winchester Hospital to obtain their bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN). Despite the 2020 tournament’s cancellation due to the pandemic, the Winchester community continued to rally around our nurses.
Sue Powers, RNMS, distinctly remembers her discomfort when her mother was undergoing treatment for breast cancer almost 20 years ago and couldn’t find a comfortable bra. “We had nowhere to turn for help,” Sue said, “so I decided that I would find a way to create a safe space for women to shop for bras, wigs, and other items that would help them while undergoing cancer treatments.”
