Community Trust in BID Plymouth

Investing in tomorrow’s care

BID Plymouth provides essential care in the South Shore, offering a full range of services as a foundational part of the community. When longtime supporters of the hospital, Jeff Kapell, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and his wife, Alexandra Pollard, decided to make a planned gift, they saw an opportunity to support an essential community resource while demonstrating their belief in the hospital and its mission. Their recent contribution will support the Plymouth Annual and Innovation Fund, which enables the hospital president to allocate resources where they are needed most.

Jeff explains that this choice was rooted in firsthand experience: “I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with lots of different organizations, and one of the ways I measure them is by the alignment among all the stakeholders,” says Jeff. “What stands out at BID Plymouth is the incredible alignment among the trustees and the leadership team—everyone wanting to drive the best possible health care for the people in our community.” This sense of shared purpose made it an easy decision to entrust the future leaders of the hospital with their gift. “While I don’t know who will be leading the hospital years from now when our planned gift will kick in,” says Jeff. “I trust that whoever is running it then will make the best decisions for that moment.”

Their confidence is strengthened by the care they and their family have received at BID Plymouth. In recent years, they’ve had emergency room visits, surgeries, routine procedures, and welcomed a grandchild born at the hospital. Each experience reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to everyone who walks through its doors. “When we walk in as patients, we see excellent care firsthand,” says Alex. “It tells us the same exceptional care is given to every patient. That consistency is why this community trusts BID Plymouth.”

For the couple, giving back is rooted in a lifelong belief in community. Alex has held many volunteer roles over the years, and Jeff recalls growing up watching his mother volunteer at the local library. “Communities give us so much support in ways we don’t always recognize,” says Jeff. “Giving back in this way has always felt like an obligation and a privilege.”

Jeff and Alex see the hospital as an essential resource for Plymouth’s growing population. There will always be a need to grow, expand, and invest in new equipment, new facilities, and new ways of caring for people. And with BID Plymouth’s integration into Beth Israel Lahey Health, they see even greater momentum. “The BILH system has invested in the people who live here. But it all starts with a commitment from all of us to make a difference,” says Jeff. Their gift is not only a reflection of gratitude for the care they’ve received—it is a vote of confidence in the hospital’s mission and future, and a meaningful investment in the place they call home. “You choose to live in this community. At some point, someone you love will need care,” says Alex. “Having that care close by matters. That is why we give and trust in this leadership, and we encourage everyone to do the same.”
