A Conversation with President Jonathan Lind, MBA, FACHE
Leading with community, building the future
Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth recently welcomed Jonathan Lind, MBA, FACHE, as its new president, bringing more than twenty-five years of experience leading community hospitals. Since stepping into the role, Jonathan has spent time listening, learning, and building relationships across the hospital and the community.
As BID Plymouth continues to strengthen its role within the community and as part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, significant investments are underway to expand access, enhance facilities, and bring more specialized care closer to home. In the following conversation, Jonathan reflects on what makes BID Plymouth unique, the opportunities ahead, and the role philanthropy and community partnership will play in shaping the hospital’s future.
What drew you to BID Plymouth, and what has stood out to you most about the community?
This role offered an opportunity to return to Massachusetts and serve a community that feels deeply invested in caring for each other. What stood out right away was the strong sense of pride, both within the hospital and across the region. Many staff members live here within the local community and care for their neighbors and people they know, which creates a deep sense of ownership and connection.
That connection to the community fuels a shared commitment to ensuring patients can access exceptional care without leaving the South Shore. Across areas such as cardiology, orthopedics, surgery, gastroenterology, and oncology, we’re expanding both the services we offer and the number of specialists available locally. That combination is powerful.
Now that you’ve spent time at BID Plymouth, what makes it such a special place for patients, families, and the community?
What continues to stand out is how deeply this community identifies with the hospital. People truly see BID Plymouth as their hospital. There are generations of families who have worked here, received care here, and remain invested in its success.
That level of engagement is energizing. Community members care deeply about the services available locally, and they are passionate about ensuring high-quality care remains close to home. As Plymouth continues to grow, the hospital is growing alongside it. We’re making important investments to meet the community’s evolving needs, and it’s an exciting time to be part of that growth.
What does BID Plymouth bring to the community today?
One of the most exciting developments is the growing breadth and sophistication of care available right here in Plymouth. As part of BILH, our patients have greater access to specialists, advanced technologies, and clinical expertise than ever before.
BID Plymouth has always been known as a community hospital with a strong commitment to compassionate care. Today, we’re building on that legacy by pairing community-centered care with advanced clinical capabilities. In many cases, patients can receive care closer to home that previously might have required travel elsewhere.
What are you most excited to build or advance in your role as president?
I’m excited about strengthening the connections between BID Plymouth and the broader BILH system while ensuring Plymouth’s unique strengths continue to shine.
There is tremendous opportunity to bring additional resources and services to this community. Part of my role is helping people better understand the depth and breadth of care available at BID Plymouth, while continuing to connect our community with new programs and specialties. At the same time, we’re planning for the future through significant investments in campus transformation, new technology and innovation, and workforce development that will help us continue delivering exceptional care for years to come.
Most importantly, I want to continue building a culture where every voice matters and where we work together to create a shared vision for the future.
What would you want our donors and supporters to know about the impact they make here every day?
Philanthropy is a powerful catalyst for what’s possible at BID Plymouth. It allows us to move important initiatives forward faster and more boldly, whether that’s expanding clinical programs, enhancing facilities, investing in new technology, or improving the patient experience. The impact is often immediate and tangible, helping strengthen access to high-quality care close to home.
Most importantly, we are deeply grateful to our donors and supporters. This is their hospital, and their generosity plays a direct role in shaping its future. We take that responsibility seriously by stewarding every gift carefully and ensuring that support translates into meaningful improvements for patients and families. From major projects like the Emergency Department expansion to investments in equipment and services, philanthropy helps us continue evolving to meet the needs of our community. The difference donors make can be seen and felt every day, and together we’re building an even stronger future for health care in our region.
