Over the course of a distinguished 42-year career, Mark Hodgman, MD, provided exemplary care to thousands of cardiology patients from the South Shore and beyond. A respected leader at Beth Israel Deaconess HospitalMilton (BID Milton), Hodgman held various key roles including President of the medical staff, Chair of the Ethics Committee, Chief of Cardiology, and Chief of the Department of Medicine. He was influential in establishing the hospital’s enduring culture of compassionate, personalized care.

To honor Hodgman’s extraordinary contributions to the community and the hospital, BID Milton has chosen to name its forthcoming Cardiology Testing Suite, which is currently undergoing major updates, in his honor. With work currently underway to expand and redesign the suite to increase the hospital’s capabilities, as part of BID Milton’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its space and patient experience. “We think there could be no more fitting tribute to Mark’s long and dedicated service,” says Jon Cronin, MD, President of South Shore Internal Medicine and Hodgman’s former medical partner. “Mark is a one-of-a-kind physician whose passion and commitment to patient-centered care is legendary.”

Once completed, the Mark Hodgman, MD, Cardiology Testing Suite will provide patients with state-of-the-art diagnostics in a spacious, calm, and comforting setting. Separate from the hospital’s other testing areas, the dedicated suite will include two new rooms for echocardiography, expanded space for stress testing equipment, and a reconfiguration of specialized rooms for nuclear testing. This space will significantly increase capacity and reduce lead times for patient appointments, while providing medical and surgical staff with the critical information needed to diagnose and treat a range of cardiac conditions. “I’m humbled by this honor,” says Hodgman. “It’s been such a privilege for me to serve our community over the past four decades, and I’ll always treasure the rewarding relationships I’ve shared with my patients and with my colleagues at BID Milton.”

The creation of the new suite is an integral part of BID Milton’s Everyday Exceptional Campaign, which is embarking on widespread renovations and capital improvements to the hospital’s most indispensable spaces. These crucial upgrades are enhancing the patient experience and enabling staff to continue to provide the exceptional care for which BID Milton is known. With generous philanthropic support from the hospital’s closest supporters and community members, this key step of the campaign has raised more than $150,000 of its $250,000 goal toward the new testing suite. At BID Milton, we are committed to making every day exceptional, and philanthropy is vital.
