A Community’s Vision Realized
A Message from Richard Fernandez, President, BID Milton
As we celebrate the completion of the Everyday Exceptional Campaign and the opening of our expanded Emergency Department (ED) this past August, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the community that made this historic achievement possible.
More than six years ago, we embarked on an ambitious vision to strengthen Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton and ensure that exceptional care would remain available close to home for generations to come. What began in 2020, during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, grew into the largest philanthropic campaign in our hospital’s history, raising more than $13 million in support of our future. The success of this effort reflects something truly extraordinary: a community united by a shared belief in the importance of local health care.
The Everyday Exceptional Campaign was never solely about bricks and mortar. It was about strengthening the experience of care for every patient and creating an environment where our caregivers can do their best work. Through the campaign, we modernized inpatient and clinical spaces throughout the hospital and expanded our ED to meet the growing needs of our community. These investments include areas such as the Mark T. Hodgman, MD Cardiology Testing Suite and the John FX Mahoney, MD Neurology Testing Suite, along with enhanced patient, family, and staff spaces across the campus. Together, these improvements provide physicians, nurses, and staff with the tools, technology, and environment needed to deliver the compassionate, personalized care that has long defined BID Milton.
This achievement was made possible by extraordinary leadership and generosity. We recognize Anthony Cichello and Michael Brady, who served as board chairs during different phases of the campaign, and Jeff Marr, who chaired the Philanthropy Committee throughout this remarkable effort. Alongside our Board of Trustees and Advisors and the dedicated members of the Philanthropy Committee, they championed our mission, inspired generosity across the community, and helped carry this campaign from vision to reality.
We also recognize the supporters of our Everyday Exceptional Gala, whose generosity over the past four years generated critical philanthropic support for the campaign. We are especially grateful to the Copeland Family Foundation for its remarkable generosity through two gifts totaling $2 million, the largest contribution received during the campaign. Their leadership support helped accelerate progress and inspired others to invest in this transformational effort.
Most importantly, this campaign was powered by the generosity of donors, volunteers, gala attendees, community partners, grateful patients, and advocates. Every gift and every act of support helped make this achievement possible.
As part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, BID Milton plays a vital role in delivering care close to home. The investments made through the Everyday Exceptional Campaign ensure that our hospital remains strong, accessible, and prepared to meet the evolving health care needs of our community.
While we celebrate this milestone, the true impact of this campaign will be measured in the lives it touches for years to come: the patients who receive care in our expanded ED, the families who find comfort during difficult moments, and the caregivers who have the space, tools, and resources they need to provide exceptional care. More than a fundraising campaign, Everyday Exceptional is a lasting testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together around a shared purpose. Thank you for believing in our mission, investing in our future, and helping ensure that exceptional care remains close to home for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Richard Fernandez
