The Everyday Exceptional Campaign at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton (BID Milton) is a multi-year, multi-phase effort to transform BID Milton’s facilities and elevate the patient experience. Philanthropy is vital to BID Milton’s ability to meet the needs of its patients and families. In the campaign’s first phase, the hospital upgraded and expanded patient rooms, nursing stations, hallways, family rooms, medication rooms, and staff areas. Thanks to generous donors, these critical updates are complete and already redefining BID Milton’s ability to deliver high-quality care. Philanthropic support continues to be essential with exciting new capital projects underway—all fueled by the Everyday Exceptional Campaign.  

The hospital has opened a new neurology testing suite where various key diagnostics are provided in one dedicated area. This space will ultimately be named for the late John Mahoney, MD, a longtime, well-respected BID Milton neurologist. His family, friends, and colleagues are supporting the project via the John F.X. Mahoney, MD, Foundation in honor of the lasting impact he made on BID Milton. The foundation aims to carry on Mahoney’s legacy by advancing education in neurology and fueling breakthrough research for neurological conditions including stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease. This neurology diagnostic suite is staffed with six board-certified doctors, three radiology technicians, and houses state-of-the-art equipment.  

Another exciting addition supported by philanthropy is the Mark T. Hodgman, MD, Cardiology Testing Suite. The space will be named for Mark Hodgman, MD, who practiced at BID Milton for forty years and was influential in establishing the hospital’s enduring culture of compassionate, personalized care. Once complete, the suite will provide advanced diagnostics in a spacious, calm, and comforting setting. This space will significantly increase capacity and reduce lead times for patient appointments while providing medical and surgical staff with critical information needed to diagnose and treat a range of cardiac conditions. “I’m humbled by this honor,” says Hodgman. “It’s been a privilege for me to serve our community over the past four decades, and I’ll always treasure the rewarding relationships I’ve shared with my patients and with my colleagues at BID Milton.”  Make a gift to the Mark T. The hospital’s new Birkenfeld Healing Garden is a special place for patients and visitors alike, reflecting the deeply personal nature of Pam Birkenfeld’s generous gift to the Everday Exceptional Campaign. Her late husband, Ron Birkenfeld, MD, was a leading neurosurgeon whose tenure at BID Milton spanned decades. He is remembered for his thoughtful approach with patients, families, and colleagues. “I have seen firsthand the compassionate care that is provided here,” says Pam, who named the hospital’s Healing Garden in her husband’s honor. “My husband dedicated his life and his career to that type of care. Now with this gift, I hope to honor his memory and help this hospital which meant the world to him.” The Birkenfeld Healing Garden is a place for members of the hospital community to take a minute to themselves and recharge throughout the day.
