The $2 million Everyday Exceptional campaign is underway at BID Milton, and critical support is needed.
A beacon of high-quality care just south of Boston, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton has long been a trusted hospital for the entire community. Now it is imperative that we continually elevate its physical environment to meet the standard of care our patients have come to expect—and the superior skill and expertise of our staff. To that end, we are thrilled to have launched the Everyday Exceptional campaign to make crucial upgrades to BID Milton’s most indispensable spaces.
Evidence shows that when patients receive care in a comfortable environment that is conducive to well-being, they have improved outcomes and shorter hospital stays. We are so grateful to our generous donors who have contributed to this vital effort, enabling BID Milton patients to enjoy beautifully renovated rooms with new state-of-the art technology to enhance communication and help staff deliver leading-edge care. “When patients enter the rooms, they say ‘wow’ and comment on how pleasing their surroundings are, and how comfortable they feel,” says Leanne Baker, RN, Interim Director of Nursing. “The campaign is essential to keeping the patient experience at the forefront of all we do, and we truly thank all our donors.”
At the campaign’s conclusion, one hundred percent of BID Milton’s inpatient rooms will be upgraded—enabling each and every patient to benefit from natural light, soothing colors, and a quieter, more peaceful environment. Beyond patient rooms, new nurses’ stations are already positively impacting both patients and staff by optimizing space for more efficient care. “The improvements are making a huge difference in the way we work,” says Katherine Lyons, RN, a nurse at BID Milton. “In-room technology helps us communicate with patients, allowing us to bring them exactly what they need, when they need it. And our new nurses’ station gives us everything necessary at our fingertips. It saves us so much time, so we can focus on patients and families.”
While the new facilities are already generating energy and excitement, there is still work to do before the project’s scheduled completion at the end of 2023, and ongoing philanthropy is critical. For supporter Pam Birkenfeld, her generous gift to the Everyday Exceptional campaign is deeply personal. Her late husband, Ronald Birkenfeld, MD, was a leading neurosurgeon whose tenure at BID Milton spanned decades, who is remembered for his thoughtful approach with patients and colleagues alike. “I have seen firsthand the compassionate care that goes on here,” says Pam. “It’s what my husband dedicated his life and his career to. Now with this gift, I hope to honor his memory and help this hospital, which meant the world to him, continue its legacy of caring for our community.”
The Everyday Exceptional campaign is part of a multi-year, multi-phase effort to transform BID Milton’s facilities. Today, the team is more than halfway to its fundraising goal for this phase—and support is essential to completing this vital work. “The generosity of our community could not be more appreciated, and it’s imperative that it continues,” says Richard Fernandez, President of BID Milton, who has contributed generously to the campaign. “Our patients, their families, and the entire community count on us for world-class care. We aren’t just revamping rooms and hallways. We are changing the face of healthcare in our area.”
We graciously thank all our campaign donors for their generosity.
