Note From Kevin
Dear BIDMC Board Member,
I hope this note finds you well and enjoying the early days of spring, even if the temperatures don’t always seem to reflect the official season.
I am pleased to share an update on BIDMC’s fundraising efforts for the first half of Fiscal Year 2025.
Our philanthropy team has raised $78.4 million as of March 31, 2025, including $1.1 million raised toward our $1.4 million Board Annual Fund goal. Support from our board members has contributed 71 percent of the fiscal year’s success thus far. The Where Extraordinary Lives campaign total now stands at $829.7 million toward our goal of $1.2 billion.
As you may have seen, we recently achieved several milestones in the Dana-Farber Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Collaboration regulatory approval process. Following an Independent Cost Analysis commissioned by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health showing that the collaboration would be beneficial to the region, the state’s Public Health Council voted unanimously to approve Dana-Farber’s Determination of Need (DoN) application for the new dedicated cancer hospital. We expect the DoN to go into effect in mid-May, 30 days after the Health Policy Commission issued its final Cost and Market Impact Review of the collaboration on April 17. These approvals are a key vote of confidence in our shared vision for a state-of-the-art hospital that will transform the lives of individuals affected by cancer. Multiple city and state regulatory reviews of our plans are also in process.
As a testament to the exceptional care provided at BIDMC, many of our physicians were recently honored on Top Doctors lists in local magazines, including more than 200 featured in Boston Magazine. We are, of course, proud of the thousands of BIDMC providers who everyday generously share their expertise in clinical care, research, and medical education.
It is an honor to partner with you in furthering BIDMC’s mission. Thank you for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Kevin McAteer
Divisional Vice President, Philanthropy

P.S. A special shout-out to the 22 dedicated individuals who ran the 129th Boston Marathon® presented by Bank of America on behalf of BIDMC on April 21. Race day may be over, but you can still learn more about our runners and support their efforts.
