Note From Kevin

Dear BIDMC Board Member,

It is my pleasure to share an exciting update on BIDMC’s fundraising through the completion of the 2025 fiscal year. As of September 30, our philanthropy team raised $113.9 million—a historic high for the medical center, surpassing our goal by $29 million. This fundraising total includes $1.6 million raised toward our $1.4 million Board Annual Fund goal. The Where Extraordinary Lives Campaign total now stands at $865.1 million toward our goal of $1.2 billion.

It was great to see so many of you at our Annual Meeting of the BIDMC Boards on October 6. We heard from many of our distinguished community members about the hospital’s ambitious vision for the future, including tremendous progress in the Dana-Farber Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Collaboration. This past year, we gained incredible momentum in our fundraising to support recruitment of the best and brightest to join our extraordinary teams that will bring the Collaboration to life. New hires include Stuart J. Schnitt, MD, Chief of the new Division of Cancer Pathology, and Muneeb Ahmed, MD, Chief of the new Division of Cancer Radiology, who recently joined their respective teams. We are also excited to welcome Elizabeth Mittendorf, MD, PhD, Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery, and Theodore (Ted) Hong, MD, Vice Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology, to the medical center. Hadine Joffe, MD, will be joining us in December as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.

We honored and thanked Tom DeSimone for his four years of distinguished service to BIDMC as Chair of the Board of Trustees and welcomed Ann Berman as the new Chair. We also welcomed three new members to the Board of Trustees: Matthew D. Consigli, Young J. Lee, and Kenneth R. Leibler. I encourage you to read more about them here. This is a remarkable time for BIDMC, and I hope you will continue to join us in our efforts to redefine how we deliver care. I invite you to view a photo album from the evening.

Strong leadership across our boards and dedication across the medical center continue to sustain BIDMC’s national reputation. I am pleased to share that BIDMC has placed in the top 50 hospitals nationwide in nine different specialties. Please see this press release for more information.

We are also excited to announce the launch of BIDMC Community Grand Rounds: A Virtual Lecture Series this fall. These virtual sessions spotlight groundbreaking work by our physicians and scientists, offering timely insights on engaging health care topics with opportunities for Q&A. I hope you’ll join us for the upcoming schedule and encourage friends and family to attend.

Thank you all for another incredible year at BIDMC. I appreciate all that you do to contribute to our important mission and our continued success.

Sincerely,

Kevin McAteer
