Note From Kevin

Dear BIDMC Board Member,

As we enter the new year, I want to take a moment to thank you for everything you helped BIDMC accomplish in 2024. I feel very fortunate to work with this incredible board community and deeply appreciate your support and engagement.

I am pleased to share that the philanthropy team raised $19.9 million in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2025, bringing the Where Extraordinary Lives campaign total to $774 million and moving us closer to our $1.2 billion goal. Support from our board community contributed 34.2 percent of this quarter’s success, including $816,000 raised toward our $1.4 million Board Annual Fund goal—nearly $300,000 more than we achieved at this time last year.

At this pivotal moment in the medical center’s history, we have a tremendous opportunity to come together to shape the future of medicine. The extension of our campaign aligns with our ambitious goals to transform how care is experienced and delivered, both at BIDMC and beyond. We are excited to continue elevating our clinical, research, and educational efforts, as we embark upon our historic collaboration with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

This issue’s Focus on Diversity highlights the work of Martin Pollak, MD, Chief of Nephrology, whose research is deepening our understanding of the underlying causes of kidney disease and its disproportionate effects on the African American community. I hope you enjoy reading about this leading-edge work and its implications for new treatments.

Your dedicated leadership and support make BIDMC’s continued growth and advancement possible. Thank you for all that you do. I look forward to another successful year together.

Sincerely,

Kevin McAteer

P.S. This April, 21 dedicated individuals will run the 129th Boston Marathon® presented by Bank of America on behalf of BIDMC. I invite you to learn more about our runners and support them if you can.
