Note From Kevin

Dear BIDMC Board Member,

I hope this note finds you well and enjoying the autumn months. I am pleased to provide an update on our fundraising efforts for the final quarter of Fiscal Year 2024. It is my honor to share that we have raised $97.4 million as of September 30, 2024 and have surpassed our $750 million goal for the Where Extraordinary Lives Campaign.

I am thrilled to share that the Leon V. and Marilyn L. Rosenberg Family Foundation has committed a remarkable gift to BIDMC in support of our collaboration with Dana‐Farber Cancer Institute. All of us here at BIDMC are immensely grateful to the Rosenberg Family Foundation and Richard, Diane, and Susan Rosenberg, as trustees of the foundation, for their outstanding gesture of support for our bold vision for the future of cancer care.

A true highlight of the year for me is having the opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments with many of you at BIDMC’s Annual Meeting of the Boards. The event provided a wonderful opportunity to come together, reflect, and look to BIDMC’s future as we embark on an exciting new chapter. Notably, Board of Trustees Chair Thomas J. DeSimone shared our ambitious plan to extend the Where Extraordinary Lives Campaign through September 2030 with a new goal of $1.2 billion. The Where Extraordinary Lives Campaign will continue to support BIDMC’s ambitious goals for the future, including our academic and research missions, our areas of clinical excellence, and our collaboration with Dana‐Farber.

One very special moment during the evening was hearing from Phil Liaboe, a grateful patient of the BILH Heart Transplant Center at BIDMC. In sharing his story, Phil described feeling that as a patient, he felt that he was “being carried” by his BIDMC care team, and that their love of their job “spilled over” to him and his family. It was very poignant and deeply personal when he described being a “direct beneficiary of their love.”

Thanks to you, we have made incredible strides in clinical care, research, and education through this campaign. At this pivotal moment in the medical center’s history, we look forward to building on all we have achieved together to continue transforming how medicine is delivered and experienced. I encourage you to view the annual meeting’s photos, video, and highlights.

This issue’s Leadership Spotlight features a conversation with Anthony Weiss, MD, MBA, MSc, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director for the Silverman Institute of Healthcare Quality and Safety at BIDMC.

As board members, your support plays a vital role in advancing our mission, and it is an honor to partner with you in BIDMC’s efforts to provide exceptional, compassionate care to our patients and their families. Thank you for all you do—you are extraordinary.

Sincerely,
